Inspiration, initiation, imitation,”family rule” of the time or perhaps heredity? Where does bravery come from? Is there finally the Gene of Courage?
The ability to read the DNA, allowed the research for genetic data that determine human behavior. Swedish researchers have identified cells, OLM neurons in the hippocampus of the brain, that determine how cowardly or courageous we are. In 2005, scientists at Rutgers University recognized an important role in the Stathmin Gene, STM1 / Stathmin Gene, in developing the sense of fear. And the search continues…
As history tells us from what we know so far, it is certain that everyone recognizes the danger.
The Story of Courage refers to those who measured the enemy and the danger without underestimating it. They felt the fear without being defeated by it. They clashed with him with forces that were often unaware of their existence!
The Biology of Courage recognizes the Model, the Inspiration, the Power of Belief in the Idea, as a “mechanism” that is not lost and is not defeated. And if we find cells, a molecular pathway and proteins involved, they are not what define our choices. Aristotle clarifies this in Ethics
“… when we get used to fear or courage, others become brave and others cowardly…our actions are ultimately the ones that shape our character”.
The quality of our actions is what matters and they are the ones who ultimately “write” our history.
The mechanism remains invincible. The path of courage, of Revolution, of every revolution is always a choice. There are no genes that push us into this. After all, everyone will walk through it alone. Greek History, our ethnic heritage, is a heritage of freedom that is born with our cells and only when cultivated by parents, teachers and role models it will sprout.
Th. Kolokotronis, Al. Ypsilantis and An. Miaoulis are heroic personalities of Greek History. On the occasion of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution for Independence and the current facts in our lives, and with respect to History, Embryolab honors Life and the values that make us stronger.
