INSEMINATION

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a method of assisted reproduction in which an enriched sperm sample already processed in the lab is placed directly inside the uterus.

CONVENTIONAL IVF

Conventional IVF is the spontaneous joining of the egg and spermatozoon under lab conditions. This method presupposes that all sperm parameters are normal.

IMSI

Intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection (IMSI) is the improved ICSI method where spermatozoa are enlarged by the appropriate microscopes, allowing us to select the most suitable spermatozoa, thus avoiding the less healthy ones.

When ICSI and IMSI are combined there is an improvement in:

  • The likelihood of pregnancy and a healthy child
  • A reduction in the miscarriage rate.
  • IVF

IVF is the procedure whereby an egg (oocyte) is fertilised by a spermatozoon outside the woman’s body and the embryo which develops is placed under suitable conditions into the woman’s uterus.

    MICRO-INJECTION TECHNIQUE (ICSI)

Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is the technique whereby a spermatozoon is placed inside an egg using a fine needle. Embryolab employs this technique very successfully on couples where there is:

    • Low male fertility
    • A low oocyte quality
    • A very low number of oocytes
    • Low oocyte-spermatozoon contact

    BLASTOCYST CULTURE

In recent years, the extension of embryo culture up to the blastocyst stage (day 5) has increasingly gained ground. Most recent studies indicate that embryos reaching this stage have the highest implantation potential and can lead to high pregnancy rates.

With IMSI we select the healthiest spermatozoa to safeguard a higher success rate.

    Collecting testicular tissue

    TESTICULAR BIOPSY (TESE)

In cases of azoospermia, a testicular biopsy is performed, taking multiple tissues from both testicles to attest the presence of sperm.

    MICRO-TESE

With this method, an expert urologist surgeon, using a microscope, cuts the healthier testicular tubules in which spermatozoa are most likely to be found. A clinical embryologist also present during surgery, with the help of another microscope, directly checks the samples to detect the presence of spermatozoa.

COLLECTING TESTICULAR TISSUE USING FINE NEEDLE ASPIRATION

In cases of proven obstructive azoospermia where the proper function of spermatogenesis has been compromised or in cases where the partner is unable to provide sperm on the day of the oocyte retrieval, it is possible to collect spermatozoa directly from the testicles.

    COLLECTING SPERM THROUGH SURGERY

After having dealt with more than 1,000 cases in 15 years, we have produced the following data.

    MICRO-TESE:

    • 1 in 2 women under 35 now have a child at home
    • 1 in 3 women over 35 now have a child at home
    • Increase in the likelihood of finding spermatozoa
    • More than 50% likelihood of fertilisation

    PREIMPLANTATION GENETIC DIAGNOSIS

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis is a powerful tool for couples facing an increased possibility of passing on a genetic disease to their children.

Embryolab was one of the first Clinics in Greece – from 2007 – to employ preimplantation diagnosis with an extremely high rate of successful pregnancies. Indeed, part of our results has been published in international scientific journals.

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis is divided into 2 categories:

Α) PGD: testing for conditions arising from a gene mutation (e.g. Thalassemia) and

Β) PGS: testing related to chromosomal abnormalities.

    GENETIC COUNSELLING

Genetic counselling is a modern science where analytical tools unlock people’s DNA, helping them acquire healthy children by reducing hereditary diseases.

It can identify with great accuracy the probability of a couple having a healthy child using preimplantation genetic diagnosis.

At Embryolab, our specialised Genetic Counsellor, accredited by the European Board of Medical Genetics (EBMG), provides assistance in making the right choices for the safest results.
